School has finally started, and I’m happy about that since it means I have a year tops at VCU. I will be graduating in Spring 2017. It feels awesome to almost be done with school. I was hit with snow this past weekend, and it hit us with at least 15 inches. The most we’ve ever seen in a while. I’m pretty much stuck since my car is covered in snow. I’ve also been out of work the past three days since I can’t even get out of my street. I’m taking Graphics for Journalism, Writing for web and Print, Intro to Broadcast Writing, and Audio and Video Journalism. I have to say I love it so far, and my writing will change a long with the quality of my Youtube videos and my Blog. I can even learn how to create newsletters which will be helpful. I haven’t been sitting around doing nothing though. I’ve been working on my journalism homework.
I’ve also been doing research on Audiobooks as well, and instead of getting someone else to do the narration I want to do it myself. Of course, I’m also experimenting with software for it like using Garageband from my MacBook Pro. I’ll write a blog post about the process as well and tell people about my experiences with it. I took some time to clean up my room, and gathered up all my work notebooks to use in future stories. I’m still waiting to hear back from a reader about Scarlet book 1 then I’ll revise accordingly. It might be ready in 3 or 4 months give or take. It’s expensive to publish hence why that will be a topic for another post. Even a Youtube video can be made about it. I want to write some stories to include in anthologies like shorts or novellas. I write all kinds of stories so it’s fun. I just wanted to do a quick update before I work on a few of my stories. I plan on making a notebook with all the rituals in my worlds, and maybe read a few books on the way. I hope you guys are safe.
Are you stuck in the house like I am? What are you doing to pass the time?
Until next time,

I used to let things get to me easily thanks to being bullied in elementary, high school, and middle school. I used to spend days filled with hate, anger, and wanting revenge towards those who bullied me. The day I found writing is the day it all stopped being bad, and my perspective on life changed. I wasted my life some thinking about the bullies instead of finding ways to help people like me. Writing allows me to reach out to people like me, and show them that they should not waste time with childish people. Writing is a refuge I use to make things better, and it made me have the power to take things into my own hands. It allows me to create worlds where extraordinary things happen, and where fantastical creatures exist. It helped me get over the negativity of my past by allowing me to use writing as a therapy. I wrote down the negative situations, and changed them to a better outcome. I follow authors on twitter, and it amazes me how they cope with negativity. I hope to be like them someday.
Another situation this time dealing with fear is I used to let the fear of people judging my work get in the way as well when I first started. I was afraid they would not like it, and that they would say mean things about it. I dealt with that by getting together emails of those close to me, and sending it to them. It worked so much that the fear is gone some. I know that people there will not like my work totally, but I think in order to be a writer you have to get over it. You have to not let it get in the way of writing.
The root of fear and negativity sometimes is success. The negative people who throw negativity at your work are probably jealous that they cannot make works of art like that. The reason why we fear something might be because we focus on that to have a reason to stop taking risks. I hope you liked reading this as much as I loved writing it. Go after your dreams and try not to let fear and negativity get in the way. Believe me if I can do it so can you.

I love using Twitter at this point, and I have fun after work tweeting the hilarious parts of working retail. It’s one of those subjects I love to hate since it’s something a ton of people relate to. I have been tweeting the funny parts of my job, and as a bonus here is some of the tweets and stories of the past few days.
Is this all you have? Is there more somewhere else? No, that's all we have, and no we don't have any in the non existent back…
I didn't know what to expect when I started working retail, but I'm glad I did since it showed me a side that I've never seen before.
#DearCustomer your order comes in when we call you if you did not get a call then it hasn't come in. #retailproblems
Sir, we did not call you yesterday at all, and it's still in the lab. #retailproblems
Just put away the keys. Can I C this chain? But I told me you were just looking. #retailproblems

Yes, we have the item posted in the ad today and we carry all items in said AD... #retailproblems
Yes, I'm going to smile, but don't think I'm not thinking of ways to tell you off without losing my job. #retailproblems

#DearCustomer if you are nice to me I'm more likely to go out of my way for you then if you are rude to me.
Yes, since I work for the company I know everything about all the areas in the store. #retailproblems
Yes, this is all we have no we don't have it in the back. #retailproblems
No you can't pay on a layaway from a different store. Go 2 the 1 you put it at. #retailproblems
Twitter is a platform that allows you to use 140 characters, so some words are shortened to allow for more room. I used the hashtags #retailproblems to reach a wider audience for my tweets. A lot of people use it to talk about retail problems and stuff only people who work retail understand and I also use the hashtag #DearCustomer when I want to tell them advice, or talk about what they are doing is wrong. It’s a fun little community, and it allowed me to talk to people and follow others with a like mind. Some of the users I love to follow are: @SWilliamBrown33,@ObservingRetail,@The_Retail_Rant, and @cashier_pain. I follow them because they regularly talk about what a pain it can be to work retail at time, and the things customers do to piss people off. I’m also going to create my own book about the stuff I have experienced while working it so far.
Here is a few stories from the past few days:
It’s been 1-9 both days so seven hour shifts which I don’t mind. I love shorter ones since it means I’m less likely to wish people dead. Saturday was fun. Had a customer tell her daughter to grab me since I’m too fast for her. Apparently, she can’t keep up with me. Good, cause I might have told her that if you grabbed me then I would have to hit you. Then another lady bitching, “I’m so sick of this.” When I was polite in saying excuse me when I took an L cart to the back. I should have hit her with it…No zone on the weekends which is a good thing. I hate it. Some idiot asked over the phone if we had gluten free yogurt then hung up on me before I could give him an answer. The registers blew up just as I got on lunch.
A guy comes in saying he got a call about his order. I don’t remember it so I check the safe and box. It’s not there, and I check the book to see if it’s ready. Still at the lab…No, it’s not there. No, I’m not the one who called it in jackass. Stop being an impatient, lying dick and wait for it to come in. One was a week late because of us having no one. Then idiots wanted me to put in a watch battery, and they ended up saying shit like this person had trouble so the person replaced it. I could not get it on, and it made me glad since she should have shut up to let me do my job. They also had the nerve to ask if there was anyone else that knew how to do it. No, it’s only me so shut up already. Then at the last minute I put the keys away after I asked the guy if he needed help. No, just looking. I put the keys away. Oh, can I see the chain? You asked if I did. I told him I already put the keys away. Oh, never mind then. You should have told me that before…Fuck you dick.
Sunday more people then we did the day before. Spent the first hour on the computer. After that some idiot put an item on the counter, and the bitch on the mobile yelled at me that the person will be back later. Okay, but you didn’t have to be a cunt about it. Then she proceeded to mumble stuff about me as she was in line. The person tossed it on the counter like an asshole what did you expect? The registers were hell, but I was kept off it. Lady on the phone was giving me an attitude on the phone while I was looking up a number. Well, I was making sure you didn’t hang up or get disconnected. That happened the day before actually, a lady said to not hang up on her when she hung up on me first…A lady was a bitch as she asked for a room, and oh so nicely said, “I realize I’m over the limit.” She said with a handful of clothes. I directed her to a room not even wanting to put up a fight. I was done. It was slow after some time, and Wednesday I got yelled at because the guy was having issues transferring money from Western Union, and no one would help him. I told him I would get him a manager so he can be rude to someone else. Those were my days….
If you want to keep up with my Twitter adventures then my username is @jdsamuels25. I hope you enjoyed this little Twitter post.
Until next time,
An idea came to me this morning, and I loved it so much I had to do it since it was so good. It all started with me wanting to write my journey of writing Fang and Fur of Love every step of the way from idea to published piece to everything in between. It’s something I want to do for readers, and I definitely want to make it into a paperback I love it so much. It’s something I’ve never seen done, and it’s better to show then tell anyway. I don’t know how long it’s going to take though since it’s a big project. I can do a few short ones for the books already out. I plan on doing a long one for Fur and Fang of Love. I got excited about it too since it actually seemed like a fun idea. I wanted to make a fun behind the scenes book for readers to read. It’s going to be interesting to see how it turns out. It will go over everything from how I got the idea, the research I used for it which included hours of watching reality television. (Part of the reason why I love writing.) It’s a huge thing for me too since it has never been done before. I can even include maps in the book like of the house, and even character sheets. I think it will be helpful for writers too, and they can see how other writers write their books. It’s not going to be easy though, and you can totally see how hard it is to decide if you want to go on this path or not. For me it’s something I want to do for a very long time. I even got a separate notebook for everything, and it’s going to be a fun ride.

The one good thing about publishing yourself is the ability of control. I know I’ve been bad lately over finishing projects I start them and stop them just as quickly. There is no deadline by a publisher, and sometimes it rocks since I can decide what I want to write, and when I want to finish it. The thing that has been going through my head lately is to write a few non fiction books, and one will be about my experiences working retail. I can write about what to expect, how to not treat people, the ways you can piss off a cashier, and even tell people some real life stories about what actually happened to me. There are a few complaints I’ve dealt with in the past 4 years. Not many since I try to be nice when I can. I’ve made the most screw ups the first year of retail. I didn’t know what to expect and I learned as I go. It’s something I want to do because not many people starting know what to expect, and it will be a fun guide too.
I also wanted to make a guide on self-publishing like I did and how I got my publisher too. I’m still learning though, and it was a fun process. You never realize how much work something is until you experience it yourself there are also a ton of books out there on it. I’ve read a lot and I will definitely review the best ones on my blog. I also have a ton of writing books to read, and I learn something new each time I read one. Reading books like that is good for the mind since it keeps you going. I’ve learned the importance of networking and how word of mouth happens. People are really more likely to buy your book if they know you. Networking with other authors works as well, and it helps if you have a team so they can guide you through the process. I’ve been on this road for 5 years, and I’m still learning more as I go along.

The world we live in is really discouraging sometimes especially when you work retail. I’m not saying where I work, but I do work as a sales associate. This was my first job working with the public, and after working it for four years with no opportunity to move up you get discouraged easily. I love the people I work with in my area, and I do love some of the shorter shifts since people are easier to deal with in small amounts. It can really get to me though when I’m trying to be nice to a customer and all they are giving me is yelling and bitching in return. That is the part I hate about the job. I love fixing watches and putting batteries in, even putting up clothes and freight is fun. Zoning isn’t too bad either since it’s just straightening up clothes. Cashiering in the main registers can be a pain since I’m treated like crap when everything goes wrong. Somehow it is all my fault even though all I do is ring it up. If something is mislabeled it’s my fault too. Meanwhile, we are so short handed we worked like dogs, and people wonder why we have bad attitudes when serving them. Already overworked and it doesn’t help when you act like an asshole toward us when it’s not our faults…I don’t control the prices in the system. It’s not my fault if it rings up a different price in another department. Just because I work at that place doesn’t mean I know where every item is, and if I try to help you don’t get mad if I can’t tell you the exact place where it is. If I work in a department then I’ll only be familiar with items in that area, and not others. By the way I hate people who talk on the phone while I’m serving them it’s rude and disrespectful. Finish your conversation then talk to me. I don’t need to hear your business either. I also don’t need to hear your entire life story because I really could care less about it. Return policy is the policy and I’m not breaking it since I don’t want to get fired for someone I don’t know. I’m also tired of being blamed of things going wrong with the register. I have no control over it either so stop acting like I do. I’m also tired of getting talked down to like I’m stupid because of where I work.
I graduated high school, got an associates, and I’m getting a Bachelors so I can get out of retail. I’m trying to better myself, and even write novels on the side. It will be a full time job the more I write and publish. Stop repeating my name a few times like we are best friends when you don’t know me. One customer kept saying my name so much I almost asked her to stop. Also stop acting like you’ve never used a debit card before, and getting me to help you with it. You should know by now how to use a card. Wait your turn, and don’t be rude to ask me a quick question especially when you know I’m with someone else. It can be applied to all retail stores, and I’m not the only one who feels this way. The people who work retail will totally understand what I’m saying. I’m even working on a few stories that involved working in a retail store since it still amazes me the way people behave there. Retail associates try to smile and say hi. There are ones who are nice and smile back, but a lot of the time they ignore you. They also have a bad habit of saying item and then not even treating the associate like a person. Be nice and say hi then item. Don’t just say item and that’s it cause it makes you look like an asshole. Different stores carry different items, and no items are not all the same. I’ve seen it before different stores have different brands and prices. If you get mad and say, “Well if you wont break policy for me I’ll go to your competitor.” Then go no one is stopping you. In fact the company doesn’t need your business especially if you act like an asshole.
All in all, just act like a nice human being. Treat retail workers with respect and be understanding. Don’t yell at them over things they have no control over, and above all try to be a decent human being. They are trying the best they can especially when half of the time they are shorthanded and doing the best they can to give you the best customer service possible.
In other news I’m going to school in a few weeks and it led me to only working three days a week. I’m happy about it since it means I can get more writing done. I’m going to school Tues-Thurs. Monday is a free day. I’m going to try to finish #AngelWitch in the next few months. My problem is I’m focusing on too many projects at once not good. I won't finish anything doing that.
Until next time,
